Motivational workout tips
So you’re just a few weeks away from your desired ‘summer body’ but you’ve become weary, you lack motivation, and somehow, sleep sounds like a far better idea. Everyone goes through a fitness funk at some point in their journey to a better image of themselves, it’s normal. However, there is no need to throw in the towel at the very last minute. Instead, try these suggested tips by fitness expert Chad Wright from the Spry Training Team.
Go to bed early
Going to bed early means you will get more sleep. Getting more sleep means you would have got enough rest. “Being well rested not only energises you through every squat or sprint, but it also keeps your hunger hormones in check, so you’re not undoing your efforts in the gym by overeating the rest of the day,” he said.
“Work out with someone further ahead in the game than you are,” Wright stressed. No one likes to be a disappointment, and since you and your buddy would have already planned the best time in each of your schedules, it is less likely for you to pull out at the last minute.
Social Media ‘Fitspo’
This is the age of social media, and luckily, an online community of fitness junkies can be found. Seek out people on the same journey as yourself for daily inspiration. They often post their meals, struggles, and progress as a means of accountability. Join them!
What’s your reality?
Are you healthy? Can you really afford to miss a gym day? Wright insists that you ask yourself these questions before you choose to not work out. “Make decisions based on your reality. If it is that you’re unhealthy and you recognise the need for a change, wake up, show up and be consistent.”
Wright encourages us to keep our eyes on the prize. Sign up for your gym’s fitness challenges and participate in fitness events such as the Guardsman Games, Reggae Marathon and the Sigma Corporate Run. And of course, we had to add our own little bonus tip:
Sleep in it
Quite a few people are getting into the habit of sleeping in their workout gear to maximise on sleep and to spend less time in the house. The sooner you get out, the less time you have to change your mind.
Now that you have these tips, make use of them and make the best of the last leg of the ‘summer body campaign’.
