Devon House disgrace
THE EDITOR, Madam:
It is incomprehensible and bizarre that tourists are being transported to Devon House in St Andrew on a regular basis, from near and far, to see this wonderful, historic and grand old structure, and enjoy the garden and shops around it.
Does anybody notice the horrible, nasty condition of the wall around this public property, this precious national treasure? Quite apart from the huge red ‘NO VENDING’ signs plastered to the dirty wall by the entrance along Waterloo Road (effectively competing with and detracting from the elegant Devon House sign beside them – these signs give the impression that NO VENDING is actually the name of the property!), the entire filthy, damaged and littered state of the wall is unspeakable, to say the least.
I think that even the ever-present vendors would agree.
I just don’t get it.
