Constable killed in hit-and-run accident in Clarendon

A police Constable was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Clarendon last evening.

He has been identified as Rage Bennett, who was attached to the operational support team for the St Catherine North Division.

Constable Bennett is the second policeman involved in a traffic accident in recent days.

On Friday another Constable who is attached to the highway patrol unit of the Police Traffic Division was hit by a motor car while conducting vehicular check point duties along the Portmore leg of Highway 2000.

It's reported that Consable Bennett was driving his private motor car near Savannah Crossing in Clarendon when it was hit by a truck transporting marl.

Police sources say the truck was heading towards Old Harbour, but did not stop and eyewitnesses were unable to ascertain the  vehicle's license plate number.

Bennett was rushed to the May Pen Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
