After more than 30 years in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Deputy Commissioner Novelette Grant has only one day left on the job.

Grant spent her penultimate day in office yesterday, while indicating that she would be going off and returning in February for one final day.

A one-time head of the police Professional Standards Branch, Grant also served as head of the Police Area 5.

She also served at the JCF Staff College, where she was part of the development of the senior strategic management course designed for assistant commissioners and senior superintendents.

Grant was later appointed deputy commissioner of police in charge of administration, becoming the second woman in the history of the JCF to be named to that rank.

The high point of her career came last year when she was appointed to act as head of the JCF for 90 days while a search was conducted for a replacement for Dr Carl Williams.

She was overlooked by the Police Service Commission when the permanent replacement, George Quallo, was selected, sparking complaints that the highly competent and experienced crime fighter was not selected because of her gender.
