An auto industry group says new-car registration in Britain fell 22 per cent in October compared to a year earlier, when the government was offering cash incentives to buyers.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said Thursday that registrations were still up by 4.8 per cent in the first 10 months of the year compared to the same period in 2009.

The society predicted that full-year registrations will be up 1.5 per cent compared to 2009.
