Beauties call at King’s House

Seven contestants in the Miss Mona Beauty Contest called on the Governor General Sir Clifford Campbell at Kingos House yesterday.

They were accompanied by their sponsors and Mrs Marjorie Smith, organiser of thecContest and Mr Danny Burrowes, chairman of the organising committee.

The drawing of the sashes to determine which of the firms would sponsor each of the contestants was made by Sir Clifford.

In his address to them, Sir Clifford told the beauties not to be concerned only for their facial appearance, but with the quality of their character.

This he said was essential if they were going to make Jamaica a better place when they take the place of the present leaders.

He congratulated the sponsors for the work they did in sponsoring the contestants and wished the girls good luck.

On Saturday the girls will be guests at a tea party at the Mona Centre. On Sunday they will parade at the poolside of the Flamingo Hotel.

The finals will be at the Mona Central Park on December 4, at 7 p.m.
