Gleaner Honour Awards: Butch Hendrickson - Facing a challenge is straight on
Gary 'Butch' Hendrickson, managing director of Continental Baking Company, has no complex methodology for success. His simple strategy, though, is, hard work.
Hendrickson, who is the recipient of The Gleaner Honour Award for 2015, for his extensive philanthropy in support of the less fortunate, said he gives credit to his support system and his courage to face challenges.
"It's always my joy to give back, and I love what I do. I feel very honoured to be recognised," he said.
"I think the best way to face a challenge is straight on. If you try to go shortcut or escape it, you will lose your ground and miss opportunities," he declared.
Hendrickson added, "As I have got older, I also realise that you have to have the right intentions. Ensure that your motives are honourable and right."
FACING CHALLENGES
The managing director also encouraged young entrepreneurs and philanthropists not to be daunted by challenges.
"Whether it's a business project, a charity venture or a new product, I always make sure that we sit, plan and figure out what is our objective. That is what I am guided by," he explained.
"The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary, so work hard and that will certainly increase your chances at success. Be prepared to make sacrifices, do your homework and the necessary research. At the end of it, some nice things happen," he charged.
