Shantal Symister accessorises with polymer clay jewellery
Like many, the stress of COVID-19 weighed heavily on Shantal Symister’s mind and her heart. With anxiety knocking at her door and making an entrance, she started looking for avenues to reduce its frequent and unwelcomed visits. Creative prospects led her to the calming art of jewellery making.
“I came across a video on TikTok that sparked my interest in polymer clay jewellery,” she told Living. A long-time lover of do-it-yourself projects, she could not pass up on the opportunity to challenge herself and bring a little joy and accomplishment to her life. Pair that with a passion for matching her outfits with her accessories, and she was already winning in her pursuit of happiness.
“Polymer clay can be moulded into anything you can dream of,” she revealed.
Creating became an outlet and escape from the harsh realities of the COVID. And wearing her creations provided this incredible feeling of satisfaction. With this freedom of artistic expression, she felt liberated to share beauty with others. This initiative, assisted by the encouragement of loved ones, gave birth to her new business.
Let’s Clayy is a link of polymer clay jewellery that captures the essence of elegance, charm, beauty and quaint grandeur. Each accessory stands boldly as the missing piece to solving any style puzzle.
Operating in the island’s second city since November 1 of last year, the business has been booming. The Petal Dangles, Chocolate Dreams Collection, and the Jamaican collection are among the popular trends. Recently joining the list are her personal favourites from the Crimson Sunset Collection, conceptualised by a customer.
She gathers inspiration from her surroundings and ignites creativity anything – from a plant and a design on a dress to a social media post. Nature plays the biggest influence in that role. “Persons love the unique designs and colour combinations. They also love that I can create what they envision through custom orders,” she said, noting that she is currently working on a necklace line.
