GSAT results out today

Yesterday, Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites, told the House of Representatives that 37,575 students sat the exam.

The almost 40,000 students who sat this year's Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) will know the high school they will attend in September when the results are released today.

The Education Ministry says principals may contact their respective regional offices to collect their packages beginning at two o'clock this afternoon.

Yesterday, Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites, told the House of Representatives that  37,575 students sat the exam. 

He said 73 per cent of GSAT students were placed in one of their preferred schools.

Thwaites further said 25 per cent or 9,486 students were placed based on proximity to their home or primary school.

The other two per cent were placed manually.

Meanwhile, the education minister reported that improvements have been recorded in four of the five GSAT subjects this year.

Social Studies increased by six percent, Communication Tasks moved up by three percent and Language Arts and Science each improved by one per cent.

He said the biggest disappointment was in mathematics, which declined by 3.7 per cent.
