Ian Levy to get Carlton Alexander Award

At tonight's Carlton Alexander Awards dinner, businessman and Jamaica College graduate, Ian Kent Levy, will receive one of two awards to be presented.

Levy, deputy chairman, Supreme Ventures Limited, attended JC when some of Jamaica's most illustrious sons were students there. The list includes Lennie Little-White, Hugh Small, D.K. Duncan, Winston Stoner, Anthony Abrahams, Joe Matalon, Phillip Levy, Robert Levy and Munair Zacca.

The principal was Harvey Ennever but, said Levy, the greatest past student of all time is R. Danny Williams, who has raised millions of dollars to help the school.

Levy told The Gleaner he could share some humorous recollections of his days at one of the island's most prestigious high schools for boys.

No stranger to honours and awards, Levy received one of the highest national French awards, "Chevalier de I'Ordre National du Merite" in 2005. This honour from the French government recognised the role that Ian K. (Agencies) Limited played in fostering the expansion of French-Caribbean trade and investments.

In 2006, Levy was nominated for the Jamaica Observer Business Leader Award and, in 2012, received the Order of Distinction from the Jamaican Government.

In his private life, he gives national service and engages in philanthropic endeavours. These include contributions to many charities in Jamaica and France.

A founding member of Cornerstone Ministries, which is extensively involved in training and religious teachings in prisons, he is a founding member of Project Help, an organisation that assists less-fortunate members of society in addition to Missionaries of the Poor, established by Father Richard HoLung.
