May Pen hospital attendant accused of using man's bank card to spend over $73,000

A court is to be set.

A 40-year-old May Pen, Clarendon man has been charged for allegedly using a man's bank card to make purchases totalling over $73,000.

Charged with unauthourised access to computer data and simple larceny is Kemar Smith, who works as a hospital attendant.

Reports from the May Pen police are that about 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, the man used his bank card to withdraw funds from an ATM in May Pen.

The following morning, he discovered that his bank card was missing.

He later received several notifications of unauthourised transactions carried out at various business establishments in the parish and online, amounting to $73,146.38

The matter was reported to the police, and an investigation was launched.

During the probe, Smith was subsequently identified and taken into custody.

A caution statement was recorded, after which he was formally charged.

His court date is being finalised.
