A St Catherine judge today refused bail to a man charged with larceny for allegedly selling a car he had rented, after it was revealed that he has several convictions for larceny.
The court was informed that the accused, 46-year-old Marlon Chung of a Spanish Town address, who is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, has five previous convictions.
"With this high number of convictions for offences similar to that for which you are appearing, the bail is refused," Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne told Chung.
In applying for bail, his attorney, Nicholas Edmond, had argued that despite his convictions, he is a good candidate for bail.
Edmond expressed surprise when it was revealed in court that Chung had a criminal history.
Chung was ordered remanded until February 16, 2026.
Allegations are that on June 7, 2025, the accused rented a Toyota Aqua motor car valued at $2.5 million from the complainant. He subsequently rented the car again.
After the second rental, the accused allegedly failed to return the car to the owner.
The car was later reported stolen.
It is alleged that Chung sold the vehicle to a man for $1,000,000 but was unable to furnish him with documents.
Checks were reportedly made by the man, and it was revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen.
Chung was subsequently arrested and charged.
