A Westmoreland man has been charged for allegedly setting his neighbour’s house on fire.
He is 39-year-old Jason Hinds of Smithfield district in Savanna-la-Mar, who is charged with arson.
His court date is being finalised.
The police report that about 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 13, Hinds entered a neighbour’s yard while carrying a container with a liquid substance believed to be gasoline.
The substance was reportedly poured under a window of the dwelling and set ablaze, causing damage to the window, surrounding boards, and a curtain.
The fire was extinguished shortly after.
The matter was reported to the police, and the scene was processed.
Hinds was later arrested during an operation along Barracks Road in the parish later that same day.
He was subsequently charged following a caution statement.
