The St Catherine Municipal Corporation has approved a resolution to rename the Rentcombe Bridge in the Rentcombe community in honour of St Catherine North Central Member of Parliament Natalie Neita Garvey.

The resolution was passed without objection at the municipality’s monthly general meeting last Thursday, following a petition by Above Rocks Division Councillor Desmond Chambers.

Municipal Corporation Chairman Norman Scott announced the decision at the meeting, noting that the bridge would be named in recognition of Neita Garvey’s service to the community.

The next step is to have the proposed name approved and a ceremony held to mark the renaming.

The bridge provides access for residents, and the proposed renaming has been welcomed by members of the community.

Residents said Neita Garvey had been instrumental in the bridge’s existence, which provides an important route into and out of the community.
