A St James man has been charged with arson for allegedly setting fire to the house of a man with whom he had an ongoing dispute.
He is 27-year-old labourer Junior Richardson, otherwise known as ‘Mr Chin’, of Cassava Walk, Albion district.
The incident happened in the community on Sunday, October 11.
According to reports from the Barnett Street police, Richardson was involved in an argument with the man at about 8:45 p.m.
The dispute allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which both men reportedly threw bottles and stones at each other.
The police said the man left the scene and later returned to find his two-bedroom house engulfed in flames.
The Montego Bay Fire Department responded and carried out cooling-down operations.
On Monday, October 12, Richardson’s brother, Leon Sweaney, was charged in connection with the incident.
Richardson, who was being sought by the police, was arrested in his community on Tuesday, October 13, following further investigations.
He was subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session.
A court date is being finalised.
