THE SHIPPING Association of Jamaica (SAJ) will host a one-day Workplace First Aid and CPR training on Thursday, October 30. Designed to equip individuals with the practical skills to respond effectively in medical emergencies, the workshop will be held in partnership with St John Ambulance.
Open to all corporate entities and individuals interested in learning first-aid and CPR techniques, the session will be held at the SAJ’s Fourth Venue office in Newport West and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“First aid is core risk management,” said Yahneake Sterling Russell, senior manager – business development, marketing and member engagement at the SAJ. “Investing in first aid training shows that you are serious about the safety and well-being of your staff.”
Participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of the emergency first aider, emergency scene management, adult, child and infant CPR, wound care and bleeding control, burns treatment, choking management, an introduction to common medical conditions, bone and joint injury care, and safe lifting and moving techniques.
The training emphasises practical application and clear step-by-step protocols so that individuals can act decisively in the critical minutes before professional help arrives. On completion, participants will earn recognised certification, strengthen their emergency response capability, and build confidence to assist colleagues, customers, and the public when it matters most.
Registration for the course is $25,000 per participant, which includes lunch and a coffee break. Only 30 places are available, and early registration is encouraged. Interested persons can register by emailing training@jamports.com.
