AT THE recently held Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) annual congress, Spartak Moscow forward Shamar Nicholson and Reggae Girlz central defender Allyson Swaby were named the federation’s male and female footballers of the year.

This, according to the congress report, sent out by general secretary Dennis Chung yesterday.

During the Reggae Boyz failed World Cup qualifying campaign, ‘boza’ as Nicholson is commonly called, was Jamaica’s joint leading scorer along with Mikhail Antonio on two goals.

While in the Russian Cup, the 25-year-old netted three goals in four games to help his team lift the title. He also scored five goals in 12 appearances for the Russian club in the league

Swaby, the former Roma FC defender, who now plies her trade for Angel City in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, was integral to the Reggae Girlz qualification for a second successive women’s World Cup.

During Jamaica’s recent friendly internationals against Paraguay, the 26-year-old netted a 90th-minute winner, her first international goal. That goal came in the first of the two games, handing the Girlz a 1-0 win over the South Americans.

Jamaica lost the second game of the series 2-1 at the National Stadium.
