Horizon back to winning ways in Elite 1 basketball

FOLLOWING a shock defeat by the Elite Waves in their last fixture, the high-flying Elite Horizon got back to winning ways on Wednesday night as action in the Elite 1 Caribbean Basketball League continued at the National Arena.
Led by Bobby Gray with 35 points, Horizon defeated Elite Rivers 105-86. Grey was one of four players to register double-digit scores for the Cleon Morgan-coached team.
Gray, in his post-game assessment, described his team’s performance as “great” and lauded their ability to bounce back from the defeat against the Wave.
“It was great! It was a team win, and that’s what it takes to bounce back after a loss. We have to play together, believe in each other, and that helped me to make my shots. It’s the heart of a champion. We have got to defend our title, and that’s what we are going to do. I’m ready and we’re ready,” said Gray.
In the night’s second fixture, the Elite Waves got the better of the Storm, 91-87. The Waves’ offence was led by Lushane Wilson, who scored a game-high 29 points.
Teammate Tyron Walker who had 15 points of his own, said despite a solid performance from his group, he believes his own game could have been better.
“I was just trying to go out there and get a win, be scrappy defensively, and make a statement going into the playoffs. They (Elite Storm) are going to be a problem in the playoffs, if we end up playing them, so we just have to watch out for them,” said Walker.
The semi-final stage of the championships will be played later today at the National Arena, with the Elite Horizon battling Elite Rivers and Elite Storm facing Elite Waves. Action is set to tip off at 6 p.m.
