Earon Elliott’s late brace gave Chapelton Maroons their first win in nine games and their first since coach Clovis de Oliveira took charge three matches ago, and the Brazilian thought it was a victory they deserved.

Elliott, who came on as a late substitute, broke the deadlock seven minutes from time when he fired home Alex Gayle’s pass.

The Cavalier loanee added his and Chapelton’s second in time added when he floated the ball over goalkeeper Nicholas Clarke, who had left his line, from 35 yards to secure the three points.

“We have been controlling the game since the first halftime. They didn’t come much in our goal (area). We were always searching for goals and it was a positive result and we deserve it,” de Oliveira said after the match.

Chapelton remain at the bottom of the table on six points, eight points adrift of Vere in 10th, and de Oliveira reiterated his confidence in the team’s ability to survive relegation.

“This is what we have been expecting since we started our work. Of course we are going to celebrate now but after tomorrow we are going to start our work again.

“The team is getting very good. It is going to be very tough to keep this team in the first division but we will do it. We have confidence in ourselves that we can do it,” he said.

Both teams had good chances in the first half with Rodrico Wellington being the most dangerous for Tivoli as he came close on four occasions.

Alton Lewis also had a good effort denied by Neil Harrison early in the game.

For Chapelton Jahlil Evans and Alex Gayle failed to convert clear-cut opportunities.

However, after the break Chapelton were the more purposeful, with Rannaldo Christian having a good shout for a penalty after his shot hit Odean Pennycooke’s hand.

Elliott then struck the go ahead goal after a period of pressure by the Clarendon side.

Mark Lewis should have made it 2-0 moments later, but failed to hit the target with the goal at his mercy but Elliott sealed the deal with a confident finish five minutes into time added.

The defeat was a hard one to swallow for Tivoli coach Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson, and he pointed to a lack of discipline.

“We did not stay disciplined. We were playing out of position. The two chances they got they scored and it cost us big time. So it’s really a hard one to take.

“We are not disciplined enough to do the right things and when we get the chances, we are not scoring,” he said.
