Joshua Frazer set back by minor illness

JOSHUA FRAZER’S fight with Mexican Uriel Hernandez at the CAA Center in Brampton, Canada on the weekend was cancelled after the Jamaican came down with an illness.
According to Joshua’s trainer and father, Dewith Frazer, the fighter came down with flu-like symptoms and his management team thought it would not be in his best interest to fight when he was not at one hundred per cent.
“It is a major disappointment because we were looking forward to putting another win on his record and push his ranking up,” said the elder Frazer.
“We don’t know if he had the flum but he was just not feeling well for the last couple days, and this fight was going to be televised.
“There are a lot of people looking at him right now, and we want to ensure that when he is in the ring, everything is good.
“So far he is fine. We are not sure what exactly caused it, but he will be fine and back on track very soon,” he assured.
He pointed that the decision was mainly a management one as boxers wanted to fight regardless of how they feel.
“He is young in his career right now, and he has opportunities to be busy for the rest of the year.
“So probably everything would have been okay, but the risk was not worth it,” he continued.
Joshua could fight again in April, but whether Hernandez will be his opponent, that is a decision for the promoter, Frazer said.
“Maybe we can get the same opponent for April when Ricardo Brown fights. Maybe we can put him on that show. I hope that is what is going to happen.
“But I do not expect any long layoff. He just wasn’t himself, and I did not want him in the ring not being a hundred per cent.
“People are excited to see him fight, and we want the same excitement to be there all the time.”
Joshua Frazer has a 7-0 record as a professional boxer. He has won five of his bouts by knockout.
