The boat ‘FEEVA’ captained by Matthew Deleon came away with top honours following the two-day 2023 PWD Sport Fishing Challenge which culminated recently in Portland Cottage, Clarendon.

The two-day event saw the anglers facing tough weather conditions on day one before the elements settled down on the final day to provide for competitive fishing for the eight vessels that set out.

‘FEEVA’ amassed 226 points over the two days to blow away their nearest rival ‘2 Cantankerous’ which came in second with 71.75 points. Right behind in third place was the boat ‘Reel Music’ which amassed 71.65 points.

Mike Fulford aboard boat ‘FEEVA’ won the heaviest Wahoo contest. His catch weighed in at 39.7 pounds. The heaviest Mutton fish was snagged by Chris Reid aboard boat ‘Line Readie’, with his catch coming in at 3.5 pounds

Lisa Gordon aboard ‘2 Cantankerous’ secured the lady angler award after she reeled in a 32-pound Wahoo.

The event which was mainly sponsored by fishing tackle supplier Bulluna out of Miami also had an international flavour with Bullana’s very own David Vallecillo flying in from the United States to take part in the tournament.

Tournament organiser Gregory Mair was pleased that the event was able to get going once again, after the weather had postponed the tournament in late February with the anglers wholeheartedly giving a thumbs up to the overall organisation and execution of the event.

“We hosted over 20 anglers, of which one came from Miami and one from Toronto specifically to participate in this year’s tournament. They all enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to participating again next year. Our main sponsor was Bulluna, a high-end fishing gear store in Miami and they have given their commitment to being the main sponsor again in 2024,” Mair said.
