Members of the G.C. Foster College football team celebrate their 2-1 win over CASE in the Greg Garel KO competition at the UWI/JFF Captain Burrell Centre of Excellence on Wednesday.

G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport are the 2024 Greg Garel Intercollegiate KO football champions. They clipped College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) 2-1 in the final on Wednesday at the UWI/JFF Captain Burrell Centre of Excellence.

The final was postponed from last year due to internal examinations.

The two teams advanced to the final in contrasting fashion. CASE defeated the University of the West Indies 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time while G.C. Foster College dominated the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean 6-0 in the other semi-final to book their spot.

Both teams were locked in a tight battle early in Wednesday’s final, but it was the Portland-based CASE that struck first as Dante Bryan scored in the 35th minute. Their lead, however, was short-lived as Oneil Taylor found the equaliser just five minutes later and the teams went into the halftime break locked at 1-1.

After the restart, both teams fought hard to break the deadlock, but it was Taylor who once again made the difference. He netted his second goal in the 65th minute, securing the victory and the KO trophy for G.C. Foster College.

Head coach of G.C. Foster College, former FIFA referee Raymond Bogle, was delighted with his team’s triumph.

“I am very elated and happy for the win as this title has been eluding us for years. The players have worked hard for this and deserve the accolade,” said Bogle.

Bogle and his team will now aim for a second title when they travel to Mico University College tomorrow in the semi-finals of the league competition. Meanwhile, CASE will seek some redemption when they host the University of the West Indies in the other semi-final.
