ELEVEN-TIME DACOSTA Cup champions Rusea’s High punished their rivals Frome Technical High with a 3-1 victory during their Zone E clash at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea yesterday.

The game was a continuation of one started on Tuesday. The game had to be called off at the halfway stage owing to lightning and heavy rainfall.

The win put Rusea’s on top of Zone B with 10 points – three wins and a draw, while Frome are tied with Cambridge High on seven with two wins, a draw, and a loss. Frome, however, have a better goal difference.

Rusea’s head coach, Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, expressed satisfaction with the victory and confidence in the team’s progress and prospects.

“We want to top the zone, so we are going to take it game by game. I am happy we came out victorious because Frome, Rusea’s, and Green Island are rivals. It is always a derby when these three play against each other,” said Davis, who hopes the win will boost the confidence of the players.

“I think we approached the game the right way, knowing we were leading in the first half. We gave away too many free kicks, which could have brought Frome back into the game,” added Davis.

Rusea’s had gone into yesterday’s second half leading 1-0 from Tuesday’s truncated experience. Omarion Jemmison had given them the lead, jumping highest from a corner kick to head home.

Yesterday, Maliek Headed scored in the 69th and 79th to complete a brace before Frome’s Antwayne Cooper scored a penalty in time added.

Frome’s head coach, Cleighton Stephens, said despite the loss, there were positives to be taken from the game.

“The team showed resilience, maintaining their positive style of play from training. First in a long time I see the team even when down, they didn’t crumble,” said Stephens.

“I have a lot of positives to look forward to and work with. The plan is to make adjustments and be ready again,” he added

In other games, defending champions Garvey Maceo edged Denbigh 2-1, while former champions Clarendon College got by Edwin Allen 2-0.
