IN-FORM ST Jago will put their unbeaten run to the test this afternoon when they travel to face Holy Trinity in an ISSA/WATA Manning Cup Zone A encounter.

The Spanish Town-based school sits atop the group with nine points after three straight victories, including a 2-0 win over Bridgeport in their last outing. They lead the standings by three points ahead of second-placed Excelsior, who have a game in hand. St George’s College sit third in the group on six points from three games, while Jonathan Grant, Hydel, and Holy Trinity are locked on three points apiece. Bridgeport and Gaynstead remain winless and are yet to earn a point this season.

Head coach of St Jago Javaune Codlin says while he is pleased with his team’s start, the focus remains on steady progress rather than premature celebrations.

“I am proud of the players and where we are in the zone, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves, because we have a very young group. But at the same time, they are listening to our instructions and we are taking it a game at a time,” Codlin said.

He acknowledged that today’s contest will not be easy, but is backing his players to rise to the challenge.

“We respect our opponents and I know that it is going to be very tricky against Holy Trinity on their home field but we are confident and we are aiming for the best outcome,” Codlin added.

“We just want them to stay focused and to continue doing what we have been doing in training, which is to play our style of football; and once they do that, then we should get a positive result on Tuesday.”

In the group’s other fixtures, St George’s College will face Excelsior in a highly anticipated clash, Bridgeport will take on Hydel, while Jonathan Grant play hosts to Gaynstead.
