HYDEL OUTCLASSED Holy Trinity High School to register a 3-0 victory in their ISSA/WATA Manning Cup Zone E encounter at the Waterhouse Stadium yesterday.

Captain Javel Watson netted all three goals for Hydel in the 45th, 66th, and 90th minutes.

Watson gave Hydel the lead from the penalty spot after his teammate Sean-John Curchar was brought down inside the 18-yard box by Holy Trinity defender Justin Noble. He doubled his tally midway through the second period when he fired home a beautiful left-footed shot past goalkeeper Troy Francis. Watson then completed his hat-trick on the stroke of full-time when he calmly slotted past Noble from point-blank range.

However, before Hydel’s second goal, it was Holy Trinity who created the early scoring opportunities in the second half, but faulty shooting from their attackers let them down.

For instance, Holy Trinity’s Oniel Nelson, who had an outstanding game, missed a clear opportunity in the 55th minute to level the score. With goalkeeper Garrick Taylor at his mercy, Nelson’s effort went wide of the target.

The victory was Hydel’s third of the season and, according to their head coach Alex Thomas, he was pleased with the result.

“Congratulations to my boys, because the main thing is we got three points and that is very important for us,” said Thomas.

“There are still areas for improvement and so we just have to go back to the drawing board and keep working.”

Holy Trinity’s head coach, Delano Kennedy, acknowledged the developmental phase of his squad.

“We understand where the programme is in terms of our talent pool that we have here. We have mostly youngsters, some 13- and 14-year-olds, and so it is all about getting blooded in the season and trying to see how best they can develop and improve. Results-wise, it is disappointing for us, but we understand where we are at and so we just have to continue building.”

In the second match of the double-header, former champions Jamaica College (JC) and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) played out a 0-0 draw in a fiercely contested encounter in Zone C.

In the zone’s other game, Vauxhall defeated St Mary’s College 3-0 to move to the summit on 15 points.

They are followed by JC and STATHS on 13 points each, Camperdown six, Spanish Town two, St Mary’s College and Greater Portmore on one each, and Edith Dalton James on zero.
