Brown’s Town still eyeing second round spot
AFTER OCHO Rios High cruised into the round of 32, Brown’s Town High will seek to upset their unbeaten opponents in their ISSA daCosta cup competition Zone K encounter at Addison Park in St Ann today at 3:30 p.m.
Zone toppers Ocho Rios are on 24 points, while Brown’s Town, third with 13, can remain in contention to advance to the next round with a victory. York Castle High are second in the zone on 16 points.
Brown’s Town felt the wrath of Ocho Rios when they last met, as they were whipped 6-0.
Underdogs Brown’s Town, who have struggled a bit this season, are attempting to find their footing in the last few games and advance like they did last season. Having played four games in the past seven days, Brown’s Town’s players have been recovering, according to head coach Tyrone Codner.
“To be honest, we haven’t been able to do much. The main thing now is to let them (players) recover. There is not much we can do on the training field at this point in time,” Codner said, noting that, mathematically, the team still has a chance.
No fear
Going up against a tough Ocho Rios team, Codner said they will approach the game with no fear.
“Mentality-wise, we have nothing to lose, we can only gain. We are going to go out there and give our heart and see what happens. The main thing is to get them to believe, because most of the time that’s what it is all about,” added Codner, who emphasised the importance of belief and teamwork.
In Zone B, no team has advanced to the second round. Today, former champions Rusea’s High will oppose Green Island High at the Collin Miller Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m. Top-of-the table Rusea’s are on 18 points, Frome and Cambridge are tied on 14 in second and third, respectively, while Green Island are on 11 in fourth.
In their last encounter, Rusea’s and Green Island drew 1-1 and the former champions could use home advantage to get a more positive result today.
If Rusea’s win, they will automatically qualify for the second round as zone leaders with only one game remaining, while Green Island will be hoping that they can upset Rusea’s and move closer to a second-round spot.
