Mt Pleasant look to continue momentum
FRESH FROM their historic Concacaf Caribbean Cup (CCC) semi-finals qualification, Mount Pleasant Football Academy go up against high-riding Waterhouse in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) in the feature game of a double-header at Drewsland Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
In the first game, Spanish Town Police take on Molynes at 3 p.m.
In other matches, Portmore entertain Racing in a Portmore derby at Ferdi Neita Park, Tivoli host Cavalier at Edward Seaga Sports Complex and Chapelton go up against league leaders Montego Bay United at Turners Oval. All starting at 3 p.m.
While most teams have already completed six matches, Mount Pleasant have played just three JPL games this season, because of their involvement in the CCC, and sit just below midtable in 10th with five points after two draws and a win.
However, Theodore Whitmore’s team is on a high after their recent CCC accomplishment. They have also rotated their attacking players heavily since the start of the season, meaning the squad should be fit and fresh for this afternoon’s encounter.
After three successive defeats at Drewsland, Waterhouse finally turned their home form around last weekend with a solid win against Chapelton.
The Marcel Gayle-coached team are again at home today, and know they will have big task keeping their winning home form against a formidable Mount Pleasant.
Waterhouse assistant coach Jermaine Miller said confidence continues to grow in the team, but warned that they must remain focused and improve.
“We have to stay focused and continue to work on what we’ve been building. The boys are believing more and more as we go along because we are improving game by game. So it’s just to keep some consistency and we are working on it. So we will get better,” he commented.
In the first match of the double-header, Molynes and Spanish Town Police both go in search of their first win of the season.
Spanish Town Police have one draw, while Molynes have four, and will believe they have the upper hand going into this game.
However, if Spanish Town Police can get their goalscoring issues sorted out, they will be more than a handful.
MoBay lead the league on 13 points, followed by Racing and Portmore on 11, Chapelton with 10, while Arnett and Waterhouse are next on nine. Cavalier and Dunbeholden are eighth and ninth on seven.
