Campbell returns to winning ways in LA

Olympic Games shot put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell returned to winning ways in the event at Sunday's USATF LA Grand Prix, a World Continental Gold Tour meet in Los Angeles.

A winner at the Xiamen Diamond League meet in China, Campbell, who finished seventh in Rabat and fifth in the Rome Diamond League meets, won the event on Sunday with a heave of 21.94 metres, relegating the United States duo of Jordan Geist to second with 21.76m, the same distance hurled by countryman Joe Kovacs in finishing third.

Two-time World Championships 100m hurdles gold medallist Danielle Williams finished fifth in 12.59 seconds. Olympic champion and world leader Masai Russell continued her impressive form this season in the event as she clocked 12.26 seconds for the win. Tara Davis-Woodhall was second in 12.47, and Grace Stark third in 12.48.

The other Jamaicans at the meet, Adelle Tracey, could only manage seventh in the women's 1,500 metres in 4:07.89, where Emily Mackay of the United States won in 3:59.26.

Paris Olympic Games 100-metres silver medallist and 4x100m gold medallist Sha'Carri Richardson of the United States, contesting her first 100-metre race of the season, went sub-11 seconds after winning the event in 10.99, ahead of countrywoman Kayla White, second in 11.08, and Tamari Davis, third in 11.11.

World Championships 400m hurdles silver medallist Anna Cockrell of the United States ended second for the third time in a row this season, clocking 53.43 seconds. Former world record holder Dalilah Muhammad ended second in 53.65 seconds, with Gianna Woodruff of Panama, third in 54.48 seconds.

The United States' Kenneth Bednarek maintained his good form in the sprints this season after rushing to a wind-aided victory in the men's 100 metres, clocking 9.72 seconds with a positive wind of 9.7 m/s. Christian Coleman finished second in 9.84, with Abdul-Rasheed Saminu of Ghana third in 9.88.
