RED STRIPE FLAVOURS ELITE LEAGUE - Spurs go on three-match run

Manchester Spurs registered their third straight win in the Red Stripe Flavours Netball Jamaica Elite League after a commanding 55-43 win over JACE Risers at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday.

Led by Kaedean Gordon with 23 from 23 attempts and Shanice Beckford with 18 from 21, the Spurs shook off a determined JACE Risers to stay perfect in the league.

Spurs assistant coach Anisa Ebanks, said although they got off to a slow start, they were never worried.

"We know we have the experience, and as you saw, we gradually build up back and ended up tying the first quarter. They put up a good fight, but we used our experience to come out on top," she said.

She added that there is very little to fix with the Spurs team, but that they will continue to put in the work to stay on top of their game.

"This is three from three. I am very pleased with the girls. We will just continue training, and we know we will continue doing well. There is always room for improvement and we will continue to put in the work," she added.

JACE Risers made a brilliant started to the game, but Spurs rallied to draw level 12-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Then after a back-and-forth struggle in the second period, the Spurs gained the edge to take a 28-24 lead at half-time.

After the half-time interval, Spurs took control and went into a six-point lead (38-32), which they stretched to nine points at the final whistle.

Killian Hunter had 25 from 28 attempts for the Risers and Jada Ricketts seven from 14.

JACE Risers coach Nardia Hanson-Graham said the girls gave it their all but were up against a real juggernaut in Manchester Spurs.

"We played a quality team. Manchester Spurs are a really solid team. But my players were thinking about winning too much, and that's why we made some many turnovers, but the score does not reflect the quality team we have. We just have to go back to the drawing board and fix it for our next game," she stated.
