Davion Megoo, head coach of Jamaica Premier League (JPL) strugglers Humble Lion FC, says the pressure remains firmly on his shoulders as the team continues its search for a first victory of the season.

Humble Lion, who were promoted back to the JPL this season, remain at the bottom of the 14-team standings with two points from five matches. The Clarendon-based club lost their opening three games before recording a 1-1 draw with Treasure Beach and then a goalless stalemate against Chapelton Maroons last Sunday.

Megoo said that the pressure was inevitable given the team’s early struggles and their position in the relegation zone.

“The pressure is always on when you are in the relegation zone so early in the season, and you still have not registered a win as yet,” Megoo said.

He noted that while the feedback from supporters has improved, their desire for victories remains unchanged.

“I have got positive feedback, but as you know, fans are fans, and they want to win. So even though there is positive feedback, they are still waiting for those three points,’” Megoo said.

Despite the difficult start, Megoo strongly believes that Humble Lion are heading in the right direction, pointing to improvements in the players’ conditioning and their understanding of the team’s system of play.

“The direction of the team right now is good, and like I have said before, the conditioning of the team was an issue, and we are getting better in terms of that. We are more consistent in doing the right thing, and the system of play that we want to operate under is slowly building,” he said. “For the last three games, we have seen growth, and we have seen improvement.”

Megoo pointed out that he remains optimistic that the club can turn its recent draws into victories as the season progresses, but he shared that continued hard work would be necessary.

“I am hopeful, optimistic, and positive right now, but there is still a long way to go. It is a long season, and for sure, we will keep on improving, and we are searching for the first win of the season, and we want to turn those one-point games into three-point games,” Megoo underscored.

“So it is about staying positive and building on what we have so far, and we have been seeing improvements in what we are doing, so we will just continue to do those things and try to improve as we go along.” Humble Lion will play away to Tru-Juice in their next game on Sunday.
