Randy Phillips and McCoy Malcolm will again contest the final of the Levy Cheeks Couples Swept Away Clay Court Tennis Championship in Negril.
Forced to produce three results yesterday because of a rain-interrupted first day on Saturday, the two showed no sign of fatigue as they prepare for the final showdown today.
Phillips, the number one seed, started the day in a no-nonsense mood by brushing aside Jonathan Tomlinson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
He returned two hours later, where he dropped only two games in beating Simon Neary 6-1, 6-1 and later beat Davion Burrell 6-3, 6-0 in the semi-finals.
Malcolm was a bit more generous in his opening game in a 6-1, 6-3 win over Steffon Rumble.
The man carrying the fight for western Jamaica showed no mercy against Royan Edwards of Kingston in a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
And it got even better for Malcolm when Kyle Clarke failed to show for their semi-final; it meant he got a bye into today’s decider.
In other results, Morris Brown retired after losing the first set 6-1 to Dwayne Pagon in the Men’s 35 professional.
Jermaine Meikle had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kue Ounaphom in the same category.
Ricardo Chambers was beaten 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 by the defending champion Richard Dinah in the men’s amateur section.
In the women’s amateur, Latoya Facey had little trouble beating Gabrielle Burgess 6-0, 6-2, while Kalila Morris powered by Kemi Richards 6-1, 6-2.
All finals are scheduled for today.
