Earthquake felt in Trinidad and Venezuela

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 rattled Port of Spain on Wednesday.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies said that the quake occurred at around 1:33 pm and was located at Latitude 10.63 North, Longitude 62.77 West and at a depth of 83.5 km.

It said that the quake was felt 120 km west of Port of Spain as well as in the nearby cities of Carúpano, 51 km east of Venezuela, and 125 Km north east Venezuela.

The earthquake is the second to be recorded by the SRC in 24-hour.

On Tuesday, a quake, with a magnitude of 5.4, was felt in Bridgetown, Barbados, Castries, St Lucia and Fort-de-France, Martinique.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
