Vanessa Bling to deliver hits at Sophisticated

Vanessa Bling has spent more than 15 years giving women songs to sing through love, loyalty, heartbreak, independence and personal growth. Today, the dancehall artiste will bring that catalogue to Sophisticated: The Summer End Beach Party at Plantation Cove in St Ann.

She first became known as Gaza Slim, releasing songs such as One Man, Everything fi Hold Him, Anything a Anything and Independent Ladies. Her set will include music from that period, as well as her more recent work as Vanessa Bling.

“I’m really looking forward to performing at Sophisticated and sharing that moment with the women who have supported my music over the years. There are songs that we have grown with together, and I already know, when some of those records start playing, the ladies are going to be singing right along with me. That kind of connection is always special,” she said.

Vanessa Bling leads the line-up for Sophisticated, which also features Trippple X, Bishop Escobar and Illusion Sound. The beach party is the first of two events being staged by Midas Entertainment at Plantation Cove this weekend.

Less than 24 hours later, the venue will shift from Saturday’s dancehall, fashion and beach-party setting to reggae, live performances and sound-system culture for Encore Live: Culture Rising.

Explaining the concepts behind both events, Stefan Ebanks, head of business development and strategic partnerships at Midas Entertainment, said: “The idea was never to create the same event twice. Sophisticated and Encore Live were designed for two different audiences and two different sides of Jamaican entertainment. Sophisticated is about lifestyle, fashion, music and the social experience, while Encore Live is centred on performance, musicianship and sound-system culture.”

Capleton will headline Sunday’s event following the June release of Heights of Fire, his first full-length album in 16 years. The line-up also includes Nesbeth, saxophonist Dean Fraser, DJ Delano of Renaissance and Bass Odyssey.

In an earlier press release, The Fireman said that when he touches the stage, “it’s going to be a frenzy situation. I’m coming to ignite the place, raise the energy and leave you with an experience you’ll never forget. Fire cyaa cool!”

With less than 24 hours between the two events, Midas will have to shift Plantation Cove from a dancehall-driven beach party to a reggae show centred on live performance and sound-system culture.

“The challenge for us is to make sure that, when patrons walk into Plantation Cove on Saturday and return on Sunday, it feels like two completely different experiences, even though it is the same venue,” Ebanks added.

Saturday’s appearance comes during an active period for Vanessa Bling. Her 2026 release True Story finds her reflecting on difficult experiences from earlier in her career and life. Earlier this month, she announced the opening of a newly built recording studio catering for women artistes, helping them create music and get their work out to the public.
