According to research by real estate firm Purplebricks, over a third (36 per cent) of those born between 1997 and 2012 and who took part in the study say having a Greggs bakery on their doorstep was more attractive than being near an independent cafe.

They also prefer having a Greggs – which has 2,618 outlets across the UK – nearby compared to rival chains, including Costa Coffee (24 per cent), Starbucks (14 per cent) or Pret a Manger (7 per cent).

Tom Evans, Sales Director at Purplebricks, is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "We'll certainly be advising our estate agents to be clued up on where the local Greggs are after these findings."
