Broken Plate Élevé Champagne Brunch delivers luxe experience
It was a feast for the senses at Broken Plate on Sunday as Élevé Champagne Brunch delivered a celebration of flavours, bubbles, and style. Staged in partnership with Laurent-Perrier, the event brought Kingston’s food lovers together for an afternoon where every dish was designed to complement the sparkle of champagne.
“The menu choices reinforce Élevé’s luxe, cosmopolitan persona –local authenticity with global appeal. It’s not just a menu; it’s a sustained positioning strategy that ties together Jamaica’s standout ingredients prepared with refined, contemporary techniques to resonate with international luxury while complementing Laurent-Perrier’s bright acidity and fine bubbles,” explained Chef Damion ‘Stewie’ Stewart, co-principal of Broken Plate, whose culinary vision guided the brunch.
Guests were greeted with flutes of Laurent-Perrier, the crisp bubbles setting a celebratory tone. The menu moved beyond typical brunch expectations, blending Jamaican staples with global inspiration across seafood, meats, pasta, salads, and desserts, each crafted with meticulous attention to detail.
Seafood opened the afternoon’s offerings. Ackee with shrimp balanced the buttery richness of Jamaica’s national fruit with the brininess of the sea, while Chef Stewie’s seafood paella, consisting of mussels, shrimp and scallops bathed in a gently spiced sauce, quickly became a favourite. Another standout was the honey miso salmon, its golden glaze and flaky flesh enriched by umami miso and a delicate honeyed sweetness.
Heartier mains cemented the brunch’s reputation as a haven for food lovers. Curried goat pasta and glazed spare ribs offered a satisfying interplay of flavours, while oxtail dumplings provided a playful, bite-sized take on a familiar favourite. Duck rice added depth with its savoury richness, collectively demonstrating the kitchen’s ability to combine comforting Jamaican flavours with refined presentation.
Freshness played a key role in balancing the richness. Assorted salads and fruits brought bursts of colour and crispness, offering palate resets between heavier plates and maintaining a rhythm that allowed diners to savour the full menu without feeling overwhelmed.
Desserts offered a fitting, indulgent finale. Sponge cakes, biscuits, and beignets shared the table with rich carrot cake, toffee pudding, and chocolate éclairs. The beignets, lightly dusted with sugar, were airy and delicate; the toffee pudding delivered a dense, caramel-rich finish, while the carrot cake was moist and warmly spiced. Rounding off the culinary journey was a premium selection of Laurent-Perrier champagnes. Guests enjoyed the classic brut, which was crisp and vibrant, alongside the Rosé, noted for its fresh red berry flavours and soft finish. Minuty Rosé and sangria-inspired champagne cocktails added a refreshing twist, each pour carefully matched to the dishes, enhancing flavours and keeping the atmosphere lively.
Shereika Myers, category manager of wines at CPJ, added: “This collaboration between Broken Plate and CPJ brings Laurent-Perrier’s heritage of craftsmanship and joie de vivre to Jamaica’s culinary scene. Our champagnes elevate the finest ingredients and vibrant celebrations into unforgettable moments. Laurent-Perrier embodies celebration and refinement, and with Broken Plate’s culinary artistry, we’ve brought into Kingston a cosmopolitan brunch culture, a globally worthy experience, right here at home.”
Live entertainment flowed effortlessly alongside the clink of glasses and animated conversation, creating an atmosphere that was both celebratory and relaxed – a reminder that brunch is as much a social occasion as a meal.
Alwayne Cousins, chief country client partnership officer at JMMB Jamaica, reflected: “Laurent-Perrier Champagne, exquisite cuisine and [the] live entertainment created a sensorial journey, elegant, playful and utterly unforgettable. Broken Plate continues to set the standard in Jamaica.”
Kwasi Henry, Broken Plate’s managing partner, reinforced the sentiment: “Élevé is more than a brunch, it’s a statement. By elevating Jamaica’s culinary and cultural conversation to a global luxury standard, we’re creating experiences that are etched in people’s minds and setting a new benchmark for the brunch experience in Jamaica.”
From the carefully curated menu to the thoughtful pairing of dishes with Laurent-Perrier, the Élevé Champagne Brunch delivered a sensory experience, leaving guests with satisfied appetites and lasting memories.
