A group of women walk past a police vehicle in Denham Town, Kingston where a curfew has been imposed.

A curfew has been imposed in sections of Denham Town in western Kingston.

It follows last night's fatal shooting of 26-year-old Adam Clarke on Bread Lane, while he and a colleague rode on a motorcycle into the Denham community.

Clarke, otherwise called Bigga, was from Water Lane also in west Kingston.

The police say he was the pillion.

The incident happened about 9:20 p.m.

The curfew, which began at 6 o'clock this morning will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Friday.

In October 2017, Denahm Town was declared a Zone of Special Operation.

It was also a part of the general area where there was a State of Public Emergency, which ended on Monday.

Under the security measure, police and soldiers saturated area in the community.

However, Denham Town residents say gunshots were still being fired and people were using knives to settle their differences.

The imposition of the curfew in the Kingston Western Division is the third such measure in the corporate area since the start of the year.

Curfews have been imposed in a section of the St Andrew South division as well as in August Town in St Andrew Central.

Police statistics indicate that there were 1,287 murders in Jamaica in 2018.

This was a 22 per cent decrease from the 1,647 recorded in 2017.

In 2018, the parishes of Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine recorded 639 murders.
