Update | Five things about Matthew Samuda, now the youngest government minister
Government Senator Matthew Samuda has been appointed a Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of National Security.
Samuda, 35, is the youngest minister in the Andrew Holness-led government.
He was sworn in earlier today by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
His appointment fulfills the constitutional provision for a minimum of two Cabinet ministers from the Upper House.
Samuda replaces Pearnel Charles Jnr. who resigned last week to run on a Jamaica Labour Party ticket for the Clarendon South East constituency.
Here are five things about Samuda:
1. Father of one son
2. Member of several JLP committees including one for public relations
3. President of the Generation 2000, the JLP's young professional arm, from 2015 to 2016
4. Was marketing manager of Facey Commodity Limited.
5. An advocate for environmental sustainability.
