The University of the West Indies (UWI) is set to honour the legacy of former Governor General Professor Sir Kenneth Hall with the renaming of the Mona Campus Annex Building to the Kenneth Hall Administration Building.

Hall’s journey at The UWI began with his history degree in 1966 and culminated in his role as pro vice-chancellor and principal from 1996 to 2006. His leadership spearheaded transformative growth and innovation, leaving a mark on the university’s history.

Scheduled for December 14 at 6 p.m. at the Senate Building, The UWI said the event will pay tribute to Hall’s invaluable contributions to the institution.

Professor Densil Williams, current principal of The UWI Mona Campus, pointed to the significance of the event.

“This ceremony stands as a testament to Professor Hall’s profound impact on our institution. Professor Hall’s tenure was not just an administrative role; it was a transformative journey that carved a path towards academic excellence, imbued with tireless dedication and visionary leadership,” Williams said. “His stewardship epitomised an unwavering commitment to progress, shaping our campus into a bastion of learning and innovation. We seek to honour his exceptional legacy and express our deepest appreciation for his unwavering dedication to the Mona Campus.”

The Annex Building, conceived under Hall’s guidance, serves as a vital administrative hub, catering to the diverse needs of students, staff, and visitors. Its development mirrors Hall’s foresight in conceptualising a modern human resource complex that reshaped The UWI Mona Campus.

“This renaming is a tangible gesture of our appreciation for Professor Sir Kenneth Hall and we are dedicated to continue acknowledging and celebrating our university pioneers, whose contributions have shaped the institution’s enduring legacy,” added Williams.

The official ceremony, moderated by Dr Donovan Stanberry, UWI Mona campus registrar, will feature guest speaker Dr Peter Phillips with special remarks from Marsha Smith, state minister in the Ministry of Education and Youth; university executives; and close associates of the honouree.
