Hopewell Health Centre to reopen on Monday
WESTERN BUREAU:
The Hopewell Health Centre in Hanover, which was closed at the beginning of April to facilitate refurbishing, is expected to return to full service next Monday.
The health facility, one of 19 being operated by the Hanover Public Health Services, was closed for refurbishing after issues described as “structural problems” were identified, making it a challenge to operate there safely.
“Tomorrow, we are going to do a dry run to look into it. We did a lot of work inside. Every room now has a handwashing station. We did painting, deep-cleaning about two times, and now it looks good,” Dr Kaushal Singh, medical officer of health with the Hanover Public Health Services, told The Gleaner after delivering a report at Thursday’s meeting of the Hanover Municipal Corporation.
According to Singh, the refurbished facility is now ready to accommodate patients and health personnel, noting that the environment will be like that of a brand-new facility.
He said dislocated patients were seen at the nearby Sandy Bay Health Centre while the work was being carried out.
“We assigned additional health personnel to the Sandy Bay facility during the period of the suspension of service at the Hopewell facility, which allowed for us to properly deal with the additional clients at the one facility,” said Singh.
