Education Officer Dr Susan Simms, who is based in Region Four of the Ministry of Education, has emphasised that a good education is the cornerstone of prosperity and enlightenment, and is key to moving a society forward.

“It (education) shapes the minds of our future leaders, innovators and compassionate citizens, yet providing quality education is filled with challenges that require collective effort and dedication,” said Simms, who was delivering the keynote address at the recent Hanover Charities 2025 Annual Scholarship and Grant Ceremony at the Round Hill Hotel and Villas in Hanover.

At the event, 295 students from Hanover, along with 33 community organisations, were awarded scholarships and financial grants.

Simms lauded Hanover Charities for its philantrohic work, saying that the annual scholarships have been unlocking doors for many students.

“These scholarships are opening doors to higher education, to opportunities, and to a future that may have once seemed out of reach,” said Simms. “You are helping to break down barriers, inspire hope, and create real lasting change in the lives of students and their families.”

While thanking the charity for believing in the students of Hanover and their dreams, Simms described the granting of the scholarships as “an investment in the students’ potential, which is a powerful gift”. She also argued that Hanover Charities is one organisation that has recognised the challenges embedded in providing a quality education for people and has stepped forward to address the situation with generosity and vision.

“Your contributions have transformed our schools in ways that words can scarcely capture, from funding critical resources and infrastructure to supporting extracurricular programmes, and providing scholarships,” she said, noting that the support has created a brighter future for countless students.
