Holness commits to 1,300 houses for Portlanders by 2027
Port Antonio, Portland:
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has disclosed that Portlanders could benefit from more than 1,300 housing solutions in 2027, should the Jamaica Labour Party form the next government.
Holness, who was addressing supporters during a party meeting at the National Commercial Bank parking lot in Port Antonio on Saturday, spoke about the importance of making available proper and affordable housing units for the people of the northeastern parish.
“We have two programmes now for housing, which will deliver 1,395 housing solutions for people of Portland,” Holness said.
“Passley (Passley Gardens in East Portland) will have 795 housing solutions and that will come on stream in 2027, completed, and Woodstock [in West Portland] with 600 housing solutions, which will come on stream in the same year. So the people of Portland can look forward to over 1,300 housing solutions.”
The prime minister, who toured East Portland earlier in the day, also spoke about the new-look roadway which, according to him, is now ‘carpeted’ and will allow for a comfortable ride for motorists and other members of the commuting public, who, he said, have been patient, even though they encountered delays in the rehabilitation of the Portland leg of the Southern Coastal Highway.
During the meeting, East Portland Member of Parliament Ann-Marie Vaz urged party supporters to come out and vote early as, according to her, by 1 p.m. on election day, her political rival, the People’s National Party’s Isat Buchanan, should be exiting the parish “in haste”.
“Come September 3rd, all of you, you and your neighbour, you and yuh friend, you and yuh friend that you don’t even a talk to, walk early to the polling station,” Vaz urged those in attendance at the political gathering.
On September 3, Vaz will seek to win her third election in the constituency.
