Political big winners and losers
There were some big winners and big losers in the September 3 general election, with four newcomers unseating incumbents and now on their journey to Gordon House.
BIG WINNERS
Peter Bunting
The Opposition spokesman on national security dismissed the challenge of the JLP’s Ian Ives to secure the Manchester South seat in Parliament. Bunting, a high-profile member of the PNP, lost his seat in the 2020 general election to Manchester Central MP Rhoda Moy Crawford.
Isat Buchanan
The attorney-at-law, who fought a bruising battle with the JLP’s Ann-Marie Vaz, came out victorious and secured a place in the Lower House.
Nekeisha Burchell
The PNP’s spokesperson on information is among the big winners after she wrested the St James Southern seat from former MP Homer Davis.
Dr Alfred Dawes
The political showdown in St Catherine South East ended with Dawes being among the big winners after retaking the seat for his party from Robert ‘Big Rob’ Miller. The seat had long been held by the PNP until it was lost to Miller in the 2020 election.
Christopher Brown
Another surprise win came in St Mary South East with the victory secured by Brown for the PNP, over state minister in the JLP administration, Dr Norman Dunn.
BIG LOSERS
Robert Miller
The former MP had been considered a hard worker and parliamentarian on the rise for St Catherine South East, until his lost yesterday to Dr Alfred Dawes.
Wykeham McNeill
A senior member of the PNP, who lost his seat in Westmoreland Western in 2020, was beaten by the JLP’s Tova Hamilton, who will be serving a second term in Parliament.
Ann-Marie Vaz
Named ‘Action Ann’ by her constituents, she could not beat back the challenge from the PNP’s Isat Buchanan.
Dr Norman Dunn
The former state minister in the previous Holness administration was unseated by newcomer Christopher Brown.
Homer Davis
The former minister of state in the Office of the Prime Minister lost his seat to a neophyte in Nekeisha Burchell.
