‘Don’t take flu lightly’ – Health ministry encourages vaccination amid peak season
The Ministry of Health and Wellness needs to know that simply making the flu vaccine available isn’t enough; people also need clear, practical guidance on where to go, how to get vaccinated, and why it matters, especially for children, the elderly, and those with underlying conditions. Public awareness campaigns, community outreach, and reminders through schools and workplaces could make a big difference in actually reducing flu cases rather than just offering the vaccine. – Jahein Black

It behoves the Jamaican public to realise that Jamaica is not an isolated country. Individuals travel in and out the country. I encourage you to visit the hospitals and see how many individuals are presenting with high fevers and being first time wheezes despite the lack of history for asthma (asthma is not the only cause of wheeze). The presentation number is usually high. Also the asthmatics that have not wheezed for 10 to 20 to 40 years. Those are not usual cases presenting as 5 and 10 individuals in a week. But this is happening everyday. Abnormal amounts of patient admissions due to unresolved fever or the consequences thereof. Time to wake up. Flu is not something to play with. Unfortunately America has been dealing with this reality for years, so we could not understand. Now it is hitting hard. – Ruel Dean Saunders
