Kamal Powell rings in 40
Kamal Powell, head of marketing for Supreme Ventures Limited, celebrated 40 on Monday with a swanky celebration at Sora Japanese Restaurant in St Andrew.
A new-year birth, Powell, who actually hit the milestone on January 1, rang in the big day early to ensure that as many friends, family members, and well-wishers as possible could make it during the busy festive season. Their presence was the greatest gift for Powell.
“[The] high point [of my birthday celebration] for me would have been bringing together family and friends from different backgrounds, from Red Stripe, Wray and Nephew, Digicel, Supreme Ventures [and] having the full support of persons who flew in from London, Canada, and the US to celebrate this birthday with me and just the fact that each and everyone enjoyed what was a celebration of my 40th birthday and a new chapter,” Powell told Living.
Anyone who knows Powell knows that he is someone who loves life and enjoys celebrating big moments. As a marketer, he has had many wins over his illustrious career, from his days at Red Stripe, managing several brands and events, to Digicel, carving out larger subscriptions, to J. Wray and Nephew expanding the reach of the brands in the export market, to the lottery giant, Supreme Ventures.
He was particularly happy to have his mother, son, and brother with him. Gary Peart, chairman of Supreme Ventures, spoke very highly of Kamal, while his brother, Ainsley, shared how proud the family was of his success.
Long-time friend Marsha Lumley led the brief formalities, which included succinct speeches and the unveiling of the cake that was created by Sweet Expressions by Candice Bennett. Kamal cut the cake with his son, Marcus.
“As I celebrate this milestone, I’m grateful for the incredible journey so far. Thanks to my amazing family and friends, I’ve had the courage to take risks and make unforgettable memories. Bring on the next chapter!” said Powell.
Sora Japanese Restaurant was beautifully transformed by Novelty Party, and guests stuck to the all-black theme as they enjoyed a fun-filled night filled with an outpouring of well-wishes, libations, good food, and company. DJ Narity and Riu maintained the high energy with great music.
Sushi appetisers and welcome cocktails were shared with guests on arrival, and an extensive buffet curated by Chef Rome of the Saute included shrimp pasta, Chinese roasted chicken, escovitch fish, roasted pig stuffed with seasoned rice, curried goat, tempura shrimp, and Chinese dumplings.
