Term ends today for Easton Douglas-chaired NHT board

The life of the Easton Douglas-chaired board of the National Housing Trust (NHT) expires today.

The board was rocked by controversy over its handling of the purchase of the nine-acre Outameni property in Trelawny for $180 million with plans to spend another $120 million.

Amid the controversy, there was multiple resignations from the board.

There was also public concern that the board was neglecting its main duty of providing housing to contributors.

In a November 24 statement announcing the replacements to the Board, the Office of the Prime Minister said the team would serve out its three-year life tenure  April 2, 2015.

The Office of the Contractor General and the Auditor General have been probing the Outameni deal but there has been no update.
