Manchester man caught with ganja at airport, charged

A Jamaican man is to appear in court next week after he was reportedly held with 17 pounds of compressed ganja as he attempted to board a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston on Tuesday.
Twenty-eight-year-old Michael Preddie of Fairfield district, Spur Tree in Manchester, has been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act.
Reports from the NMIA Police Post are that about 9:16 Tuesday night, officers were carrying out checks with the assistance of a narcotics canine when they were alerted to a suitcase.
The accused was summoned and asked to identify his luggage.
It was searched and the ganja allegedly found.
The weed has an estimated street value of $102,000.
Preddie is scheduled to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
