Man shot and injured by police in St Catherine

An investigation is under way into the shooting of an unidentified man by the police during an alleged confrontation in St Catherine this morning.

About 5:30 a.m., police personnel were conducting an operation in Redwood district, Guy's Hill, St Catherine, when they were allegedly challenged by the man.

The police say they took evasive action and fired in the man's direction, injuring him.

The police say they seized an illegal gun from him.

He was taken to hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the matter.
