WESTERN BUREAU:

Global hotel group MGM Muthu Hotels is set to make its Jamaican début with the official opening of Grand Muthu Club Caribbean Runaway Bay on August 1, taking over the site currently operated by Decameron Club Caribbean, Ramada All Inclusive.

The change in management marks a significant shift in Jamaica’s all-inclusive hospitality sector as Decameron Hotels and Resorts last week confirmed that it would cease operations at the Runaway Bay property on July 31.

In a statement issued to travel partners last Tuesday, Decameron assured that it would continue to operate at its standard level of service through the transition period.

“We want to reassure you and your clients that our top priority is to ensure a smooth and seamless transition, with no disruption to the quality of service and guest experience we are known for,” said David Pressler, the company’s vice president of commercial.

Guests with bookings beyond the closure date will be automatically re-accommodated at Decameron Montego Beach, their beachfront property located on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay. The company described the alternative location as offering “elevated infrastructure, service, and privileged location”.

Meanwhile, the incoming operator, MGM Muthu Hotels, is promising a vibrant Caribbean experience at the soon-to-be-rebranded Grand Muthu Club Caribbean.

“The wait is almost over! We’re thrilled to announce that Grand Muthu Club Caribbean Runaway Bay, Jamaica is opening its doors to guests from August 1. Come soak in the JamaicaVibes, sway to island beats, and indulge in the warm hospitality that MGM Muthu Hotels is known for,” the company announced on LinkedIn.

MGM Muthu Hotels is a privately held international hotel group headquartered in Europe with deep roots in India. Founded by the late Dr M.G. Muthu, the group has grown to encompass more than 50 hotels across 12 countries, including properties in Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Kenya, France and the United Kingdom.

This move into Jamaica is part of the group’s broader Caribbean expansion, which includes several resorts in Cuba and recent acquisitions in Africa. The company is known for fusing affordability with diverse cultural experiences and scenic beachfront properties.

The upcoming Jamaican resort will mark MGM Muthu’s first entry into the English-speaking Caribbean and aligns with its strategy of targeting sun-and-sand destinations that offer cultural richness and market potential.

As both companies work to ensure continuity for guests, Decameron has encouraged travel advisers to continue promoting Club Caribbean up until July 31.

“We remain fully operational and committed to mutual success throughout this period,” said Pressler.
