Despite being named as an alternate for the women’s 400m hurdles in Jamaica’s squad for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, Sanique Walker will not be able to replace Rushell Clayton who has withdrawn from the competition through injury.

Team manager Ian Forbes confirmed the news as he said the timing of Clayton’s withdrawal has allowed the team little time to bring in a replacement.

“It is too close for her based on the timing and logistics about everything,” Forbes said.

With Clayton’s absence, Jamaica will now only field two athletes in the women’s 400m hurdles, Andrenette Knight and Shiann Salmon.

The championships will begin on September 13 at the Japan National Stadium, with the women’s 400m hurdles set to begin on September 15.
