Trafalgar Park resident blames construction of apartment complex after floodwaters ravage home
A resident of Trafalgar Park in New Kingston is counting her losses from Friday's heavy rains after water from the nearby gully flooded her home, damaging furniture and appliances and leaving rubble behind.
The resident, Nadene Campbell, said she was at home when it started raining and a roaring sound was heard.
"We just heard water rushing in, rushing in," she said, adding that it broke the glass door on her house, toppling furniture and leaving the entire house in a mess. "Everything is gone. It lick weh the car. It mash up the car. Everywhere," she said.
"The entire gully is in my house and in my yard. See everything outside. I couldn’t sleep here last night because is pure mud and dirt and wood. It’s disgusting,” she lamented.
Campbell is blaming the construction of a nearby apartment complex for the flooding of her property. She explains that since the apartment's construction in recent years, neighbours have experienced flooding because a wall built at the complex is obstructing the flow of water in the gully.
"It change the route, because the wall is there...and when rain fall it nuh have nowhere fi run, so it just block up behind me and because the wall is there, it just bring down the wall," she stated.
"Before this apartment came up, it was fine... and then the other apartment there block up it...Remember enuh Gilbert came and all a that and nothing never happen enuh. is since the apartment dem put behind us it happen enuh," she said.
